# TikTok AI account banned? Strikes, appeals and fixes

TikTok AI account banned? Often one video was removed or lost For You reach. How to tell which, where to appeal each case in the app, and what gets you banned.

## Key points

- A missing AI label on TikTok usually costs one video: TikTok may remove it, restrict it or label it itself. It does not ban the account for that alone.
- TikTok counts violations over 90 days. They expire after 90 days, and deleting a video does not remove its violation.
- TikTok bans accounts for good for severe violations, many violations, deceptive impersonation and ban evasion.
- Each kind of restriction has its own appeal path in the app: the notification, the post's Analytics, the Inbox or the login banner.
- TikTok publishes no time for an appeal review and no appeal success rate.

---
If you think your TikTok AI account is banned, check first what TikTok did. A realistic AI video without a label usually costs you that one video: TikTok may remove it, keep it out of the For You feed or label it itself. A full ban comes from severe or repeated violations, deceptive impersonation or a second account used to dodge a ban.

Each case has its own place in the app and its own appeal button. The figure below shows which one you have and what to tap.

## Does TikTok ban AI accounts for unlabelled videos?

No, not for one unlabelled video. TikTok's AI rule is about each video, and the results it names are for that video.

> Released August 25, 2026, effective September 24, 2026: "we require creators to label AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking scenes or people. Unlabeled content may be removed, restricted, or labeled by our team, depending on the harm it could cause." Not allowed even with a label: "Using the likeness of private figures without consent", "Sexualized, fetishized, or victimizing depictions", and "Accounts focused on AI images of youth in clothing suited for adults, or sexualized poses or facial expressions".

A missing label can lead to three things, all for that one video: TikTok removes it, restricts it (for example, no For You feed), or adds the label itself. That sentence does not mention a ban or the account.

The second half of the rule is the dangerous one for an AI persona. Some content is not allowed at all, label or not:

- a persona that looks like a real private person,
- a persona that looks under 18 in an adult setting,
- sexualised content.

A label does not fix any of these. These are the cases that put the whole account at risk.

[Does TikTok allow AI influencers](https://aiofmcity.com/blog/does-tiktok-allow-ai-influencers) covers the label rule itself and how TikTok detects AI videos.

## Banned, restricted or just not recommended: how to tell

Five different things feel like "my account got banned". Only one of them is a ban. Pick what you see, and the figure shows where TikTok tells you about it and how to appeal.

_Figure: Five cases, five places in the app. Only the last one is a ban of the account, and even then you can still log in to appeal._

**What do you see?**

- One video is gone → **Video removed.** Where you see it: Inbox, then System notifications, then Account updates. How to appeal: From the notice for that video. Then: If approved, the video and your account status come back.
- One video gets almost no views → **Video not eligible for For You.** Where you see it: The post's Analytics (turn analytics on first). How to appeal: Tap the notice in Analytics, then Appeal. Then: If it works, the video can be recommended again.
- Every new video gets almost no views → **Account not eligible for recommendation.** Where you see it: Inbox, and a notice below your username. How to appeal: Tap the notice, View more, check the flagged videos, Appeal. Then: TikTok may also restore the account on its own.
- You cannot comment, post or send messages → **Feature restriction.** Where you see it: Account check, in TikTok Studio or the Safety Center. How to appeal: From the violation notice. Take the policy training if offered. Then: Each violation expires after 90 days.
- You cannot use the account at all → **Permanent ban.** Where you see it: A banner when you log in. How to appeal: Log in, appeal from the banner, download your data. Then: No new account while the ban is active.

If your reach dropped but you can still post, you are in the second or third case. Those are not bans. The account works, and your followers can still find you.

> "If you repeatedly post content that is unsuitable for the For You feed, your account and posts won't appear in the For You feed and will be harder to find in search." TikTok says it "may automatically restore your account to good standing at any time", and that it notifies you "in your inbox notifications and profile". To appeal: tap the notification in Inbox, tap View more, review the ineligible videos, then tap Appeal.

## How TikTok strikes work: violations, account status and 90 days

TikTok does not use the word "strike" on these pages. It counts violations, and those violations set your account status. You see it under Account check.

_Diagram: Your account status from Account check. Repeated violations move it towards Banned. Each violation stops counting after 90 days._

1. Healthy
2. Fair
3. Severe
4. Banned

> "Your account status reflects your violation history across TikTok over the last 90 days. Your account status can be Healthy, Fair, Severe, or Banned." The impact of a violation depends on the policy area and the feature where it happened. "Repeated violations may progressively reduce your account status, lead to temporary restrictions on certain platform features (for example, your ability to post a comment), or lead to a permanent account ban." "Violations on your TikTok account will expire after 90 days." "Deleting your violative content does not remove the violation." For some first violations, TikTok offers optional in-app policy training, and completing it may lift eligible restrictions.
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — Content violations and bans, read 2026-10-05 — https://support.tiktok.com/en/safety-hc/account-and-user-safety/content-violations-and-bans

> Account status lists restrictions on Login, Posts, Comments, Profile and Direct messages. You find it in TikTok Studio under More tools, Account check, or under Settings and privacy, Support, Safety Center, Account check. A checkmark means no issue, a warning sign means there is one.
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — Your account status, read 2026-10-05 — https://www.tiktok.com/support/faq_detail?id=7543604781319756294

For you this means four things:

1. **One violation is not the end.** It lowers your status for 90 days and then expires.
2. **Several in a short time add up.** A batch of unlabelled realistic videos posted in one week is the fastest way from Healthy to Severe.
3. **Deleting the video does not help.** The violation stays. Fix the cause instead.
4. **Take the policy training if TikTok offers it.** It is optional, and it can lift a restriction.

### How many violations before a ban?

TikTok does not publish a number. Some websites show a fixed ladder for unlabelled AI videos, for example a strike, then seven days without posting, then 30 days, then a ban. None of the TikTok pages quoted here has such a ladder.

> On accounts of governments, politicians and news outlets: "If they reach the violation limit set for all accounts, they'll be temporarily ineligible to appear in the For You and Following feeds for 90 days". In high-risk times, TikTok "may restrict that account from posting content for a period of 7 to 30 days, depending on the severity of the violation and surrounding risk".
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — Content violations and bans, read 2026-10-05 — https://support.tiktok.com/en/safety-hc/account-and-user-safety/content-violations-and-bans

So a violation limit exists, and it is the same for every account. TikTok does not say what the number is. The only fixed periods on the page are the 90 days and a 7-to-30-day posting limit for public interest accounts. Plan with the 90-day window, not with a ladder from a blog.

## When is a TikTok AI account banned for good?

A permanent ban has a short list of reasons. Three of them matter for an AI persona.

> TikTok may permanently ban accounts when the account "impersonates another person or entity in a deceptive manner", for a severe violation (such as content that facilitates youth exploitation or promotes violence), for "Multiple violations of our policies", for multiple violations of its Intellectual Property Policy, for creating or using another account "to intentionally avoid restrictions or a permanent ban", or when "Your account exists solely to violate our rules". A banned account sees a banner when it tries to log in. "If your account is banned, you can log in to the account to submit an appeal and download your personal data."
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — Content violations and bans, read 2026-10-05 — https://support.tiktok.com/en/safety-hc/account-and-user-safety/content-violations-and-bans

The three that matter here:

- **Deceptive impersonation.** A persona that copies a real person's face or name, or that claims to be a real person, fits this rule. An invented character that is labelled as AI does not.
- **Multiple violations.** This is where unlabelled videos lead if you keep posting them. Each one is small, but together they can lead to a ban.
- **Ban evasion.** A new account to get around a ban is itself a reason for a ban. TikTok says it may also ban the new account.

> "You can create multiple accounts on TikTok. However, we may restrict or permanently ban your account if you make any attempts to avoid a restriction or ban imposed on another account you own", including creating a new account after a ban for a severe violation, posting violative content on a new or existing account, or spreading content violations across multiple accounts. This applies "while any account restriction(s) or permanent account ban remains active on your other account."

## How to appeal a TikTok ban or a removed video

You appeal inside the app, from the place where TikTok told you about the decision. After that, you follow the appeal in the Safety Center.

> "If your account is banned, you'll see a message in the app. If your content is made ineligible for the FYF or otherwise restricted, this information will appear in the TikTok analytics tool." If you believe a ban, removal or restriction was an error, "you may appeal the decision. Once your appeal is filed, you can view its status in the in-app Safety Center".
>
> — Source: TikTok Community Guidelines — Enforcement, read 2026-10-05 — https://www.tiktok.com/safety/en/policies-and-engagement/enforcement

**Do not delete the video before you appeal.** The violation stays when you delete it, and a deleted video cannot come back.

> "If your appeal is approved: Your content and account status will be reinstated (unless you've already deleted the account or content)." For a post that is not eligible for the For You feed: "If the appeal is successful, your post will be eligible for recommendation in the For You feed."
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — Content violations and bans, read 2026-10-05 — https://support.tiktok.com/en/safety-hc/account-and-user-safety/content-violations-and-bans

The steps for each case:

**A removed video:**

1. Open Inbox, then System notifications, then Account updates.
2. Open the notice for the removed video and read the reason.
3. Tap the option to appeal if you think the reason does not apply.

**A video that is not eligible for the For You feed:**

1. Turn on analytics: Profile, Menu, TikTok Studio, Analytics, Turn on.
2. Open the post, tap More insights or More options, then Analytics.
3. Tap the notice for the ineligible post, then Appeal at the top.

**An account that is not eligible for recommendation:**

1. Tap the notice in Inbox, or the "Ineligible for recommendation" notice below your username.
2. Review the videos TikTok flagged.
3. Tap Appeal at the top.

**A banned account:**

1. Log in. TikTok shows a banner about the ban.
2. Submit the appeal from there.
3. Download your data at the same time. TikTok says it deletes personal data after a period of time.

Write the appeal as facts. Quote the reason TikTok gave, then state the one fact that shows it does not apply: "This video has the AI-generated content label" or "This character is fictional and shows no real person." The [risk and recovery guide](https://aiofmcity.com/guides/risk-bans-and-recovery#what-an-appeal-can-do) explains why three short sentences work better than two paragraphs. If you live in the EU, you have extra rights to a reason and a human review. The same guide covers them under [your rights in the EU](https://aiofmcity.com/guides/risk-bans-and-recovery#your-rights-in-the-eu).

### What the sources do not say: Finding how long a TikTok appeal takes and how often it works

We looked for two numbers: how long TikTok takes to review an appeal, and how many appeals succeed. TikTok publishes neither on the pages a creator reads.

The support pages "Content violations and bans", "Your account status" and "Why is my account not being recommended?" explain where to appeal. None gives a review time or a deadline. The Enforcement section of the Community Guidelines says you can follow an appeal's status in the Safety Center, and gives no time either. The Creator Academy article on the AI label says nothing about appeals. We also tried to open TikTok's quarterly Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, but on 5 October 2026 the page loaded without any figures in our browser, so we could not check what it counts.

You can check this yourself. Open the three support pages and the Enforcement page, and search each for "days", "hours" and "%". The only period you find is the 90 days a violation stays on your account.

So plan without a number. Appeal once, with facts, as soon as you see the notice. Keep posting labelled content while you wait, and do not open a second account to get around the restriction.

## How to stop it happening again

The AI rule itself is easy to meet. Do these before the next upload.

> To label a video before posting: tap Add post, record or upload, tap Next, tap More options, then turn on the AI-generated content setting. "Turning on the AI-generated content setting won't affect the distribution of your video as long as it doesn't violate our Community Guidelines." TikTok may also apply an "AI-generated" auto label when content has C2PA Content Credentials attached. "Once your content is labeled as AI-generated with an auto label, you won't be able to remove the label from your post."
>
> — Source: TikTok Support — About AI-generated content, read 2026-10-05 — https://support.tiktok.com/en/using-tiktok/creating-videos/ai-generated-content

> Last updated September 26, 2026. "Applying the label will not have an impact on organic engagement with your content, provided that your content isn't violative and meets our For You feed eligibility standards." You cannot edit or remove the label after posting. "Using the label to try to deceive viewers is a violation of our Terms of Service".
>
> — Source: TikTok Creator Academy — AI-generated content label, read 2026-10-05 — https://www.tiktok.com/creator-academy/en/article/ai-generated-content-label

1. **Turn on the AI-generated content setting on every realistic AI video.** TikTok says it does not affect distribution. A missing label is what turns a normal AI video into a violation.
2. **Say it in the bio as well.** "AI-generated character" in plain words covers the whole account, and it matches what Fanvue and EU law ask of you. The [AI label matrix](https://aiofmcity.com/ai-label-matrix) shows the rule for each platform side by side.
3. **Keep the C2PA metadata in your files.** TikTok uses it to label AI content on its own. [Don't strip your watermarks](https://aiofmcity.com/blog/dont-strip-your-watermarks-provenance) shows how to check that your export keeps it.
4. **Check the face.** Your persona must not look like a real private person, and must never look under 18. A label does not fix either case.
5. **Post fewer videos while your status is Fair or Severe.** Each new violation in the 90-day window counts against you. Keep every video labelled until the old violations expire.
6. **Back up what you need outside TikTok.** Download your videos and keep a way to reach your audience that you control.

If the account is gone for good, do not open a replacement to carry on. TikTok treats that as ban evasion. Appeal the ban, download your data, and read [what to do in the first 24 hours after a removal](https://aiofmcity.com/guides/risk-bans-and-recovery#what-to-do-in-the-first-24-hours-after-a-removal). If your Fanvue account is also affected, [Fanvue account suspended](https://aiofmcity.com/blog/fanvue-account-suspended) covers that appeal, and [the TikTok platform page](https://aiofmcity.com/platforms/tiktok) collects every dated TikTok rule on this site.

This article describes TikTok's published rules with dates. It is general information, not legal advice.

## Frequently asked

### Does TikTok ban accounts for posting AI-generated content?

Not for using AI. TikTok wants a label on AI videos that show realistic people or scenes. If one is missing, it says it may remove, restrict or label that video. It bans accounts permanently for severe violations, many violations, deceptive impersonation or using a new account to get around a ban.

### How long does a TikTok violation stay on my account?

Ninety days. TikTok says your account status reflects the violations of the last 90 days and that violations expire after that. Deleting the video does not remove the violation.

### How many strikes before TikTok bans an account?

TikTok does not publish a number. Its help page speaks of a violation limit that is the same for all accounts, and says repeated violations can lead to feature restrictions or a permanent ban. Fixed ladders on other websites, such as seven days and then 30 days, do not come from TikTok's own pages.

### How do I appeal a TikTok ban?

Log in to the banned account. TikTok shows a banner about the ban and still lets you log in to appeal and to download your data. For a single removed video, appeal from the notification. For a video that lost For You reach, appeal from the post's Analytics.

### How long does a TikTok appeal take?

TikTok does not say. Its help pages and Community Guidelines give no review time and no success rate. You can follow the status of an appeal in the Safety Center in the app.

### Can I make a new TikTok account after a ban?

Not while the ban or restriction is active, if the new account is a way around it. TikTok says it may restrict or ban an account created to avoid a restriction or ban on another account you own.
